Skunk #1
Skunk #1 is the most well-known cannabis strain around and one to which hostile journalists invariably refer in their tales of reefer madness. It's a 3-way hybrid cross utilising Afghani, Mexican and Colombian genetics and was originally bred in northern California during the late 1970s before it made its way across the Atlantic to The Netherlands in the early 1980s. Skunk #1 is slightly sativa-dominant and is an easy plant to grow, suitable for beginners, and one which displays great resistance to the cold as well as plant pathogens when cultivated outdoors. Its many qualities led it to being a staple in many breeding programmes and its line features in many modern strains. If growing indoors it is advised to train Skunk #1 during the vegetative stage as plants can become quite large and unruly if not kept in check. Growing in a Sea of Green is also effective, pruning lower, smaller branches in the process. The average height range is between 120 - 150 cm. Within 56 - 60 days of flowering some very good yields will accrue, up to 500 gr/m2. Carbon filters are essential indoors as Skunk #1's reputation for powerful odours is well-earned. Buds are large, dense and resin-covered with maroon pistils. The high resin content makes it a good selection for extract makers. The taste of Skunk #1 is rather more attractive than the scent, dank and earthy with some citrus notes. THC is between 15 - 20% with less than 1% CBD giving a potent, balanced effect which evolves into a relaxed physical state. Therapeutic indications are for increasing energy levels, improving motivation, relieving nausea/sickness, stimulating appetite and generally boosting mood.
